The SILVERRUDDER Challenge

Silverrudder™ – Challenge of the Sea - is an annual singlehanded sailing regatta starting and finishing in Svendborg and raced around the island of Funen, Denmark. This year the race start on Friday 20th of September 2024. The shortest distance is 134 nautical miles. The race has very simple rules and no mandatory navigational marks exist from start to finish.

The SILVERRUDDER Challenge consists of 7 boat categories, and the winning boat in each category must beat the existing record time in its category.

In 2012 the race was launched and attracted 15 tough innovative contestants. In 2013, 100 contestants signed up, among them sailors from Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, and Denmark. Silverrudder Challenge 2013 was the biggest international singlehanded regatta in the world, but this number was doubled in 2014 where more than 200 contestants registered. In 2019 the race sold out in 40 minutes where 450 boats registered in record time. In the Past few years all 450 entries have sold out within just a few hours.

SILVERRUDDER has come to be known as the race that started a movement of Northern European single- and shorthanded racing and we are delighted to see many similar races appear having been inspired by the SILVERRUDDER concept.
